Today Has Songs

This one's for the past... you know who you are, and you know what you did. It's your karma. You have to live with it. I am strong, stronger than you, and I will make it through this like I made it through everything else.

Because of You

I will not make
The same mistakes that you did
I will not let myself
Cause my heart so much misery
I will not break
The way you did, you fell so hard
I’ve learned the hard way
To never let it get that far

Because of you
I never stray too far from the sidewalk
Because of you
I learned to play on the safe side so I don’t get hurt
Because of you
I find it hard to trust not only me, but everyone around me
Because of you I am afraid

I lose my way
And it’s not too long before you point it out
I cannot cry
Because I know that’s weakness in your eyes
I’m forced to fake
A smile, a laugh, every day of my life
My heart can’t possibly break
When it wasn’t even whole to start with

I watched you die
I heard you cry every night in your sleep
I was so young
You should have known better than to depend on me
You never thought of anyone else
You just saw your pain
And now I cry in the middle of the night
For the same damn thing

Because of you
Because of you
Because of you I am afraid

Because of you I never stray too far from the sidewalk
Because of you I learned to play on the safe side so I don’t get hurt

Because of you I try my hardest just to forget everything
Because of you
I don’t know how to let anyone else in
Because of you
I’m ashamed of my life because it’s empty
Because of you I am afraid

Because of you

-- Kelly Clarkson

This is for the better times... the times we have today. I love you and I cherish you.

I Could Not Ask For More

Lying here with you
Listening to the rain
Smiling just to see
The smile upon your face

These are the moments I thank God that I'm alive
These are the moments I'll remember all my life
I found all I've waited for
And I could not ask for more

Looking in your eyes
Seeing all I need
Everything you are
Is everything to me

These are the moments
I know heaven must exist
These are the moments
I know all I need is this
I have all I've waited for
And I could not ask for more

I could not ask for more than this time together
I could not ask for more than this time with you
Every prayer has been answered
Every dream I have's come true
And right here in this moment is right where I'm meant to be
Here with you here with me

These are the moments
I thank God that I'm alive
These are the moments
I'll remember all my life
I've got all I've waited for
And I could not ask for more

I could not ask for more than this time together
I could not ask for more than this time with you
Every prayer has been answered
Every dream I have's come true
And right here in this moment is right where I'm meant to be
Here with you here with me

I could not ask for more than the love you give me
'Coz it's all I've waited for
And I could not ask for more
I could not ask for more

-- Edwin McCain

And this is for Right Now. This Minute. for Us.

Walk This World

I have slept beside the winter
And the green is growing slow
I have watched you find the places
Hidden by the snow
I have tripped into a valley
That is blue 'till you can see
I want you to come walk this world with me

With the light in our eyes its hard to see
Holding on and on to what we believe
I'm not touched but I'm aching to be
I want you to come walk this world with me.

And I'm sucked in by the wonder
And I'm fucked up by the lies
And I dig a hole to lie in
And I build some wings to fly
And I think that I could love you
Cause you know how to be free
I want you to come walk this world with me.

With the light in our eyes it's hard to see
Holding on and on 'till we believe
With the light in our eyes it's hard to see
I'm not touched but I'm aching to be
I want you to come, I want you to come
I want you to come walk this world with me.

And it's burning in our fingers
And it's burning on the road
And I like the way you're broken
And I'll like you when you're old
And I see you in the garden
And I feel you plant the seed
I want you to come walk this world with me.

With the light in our eyes it's hard to see
Holding on and on 'till we believe
With the light in our eyes it's hard to see
I'm not touched but I'm aching to be
I want you to come, I want you to come
I want you to come walk this world with me.

Today Has Songs!

Huzzah!

She Will Be Loved

Beauty queen of only eighteen She
had some trouble with herself
He was always there to help her
She always belonged to someone else

I drove for miles and miles
And wound up at your door
I've had you so many times but somehow
I want more

I don't mind spending every day
Out on your corner in the pouring rain
Look for the girl with the broken smile
Ask her if she wants to stay awhile
And she will be loved
She will be loved

Tap on my window
Knock on my door
I want to make you feel beautiful
I know I tend to get so insecure
It doesn't matter anymore

Its not always rainbows and butterflies
Its compromise that moves us along
My heart is full and my door's always open
You can come anytime you want

I don't mind spending every day
Out on your corner in the pouring rain
Look for the girl with the broken smile
Ask her if she wants to stay awhile
And she will be loved
She will be loved

I know where you hide
Alone in your car
Know all of the things that make you who you are
I know that goodbye
Means nothing at all
Comes back and begs me to catch her every time she falls

--Maroon 5

Spoon

Spoon in spoon,
Stiring my coffee and
I think of you
And turn to the gate
But on my way
Came up with the answers
Scratched my head
And the answers were gone

From hand to hand
Wrists to the elbow red
Blood, sand
Could dad be god?
Crosses cross
Hung out like a wet rag
Forgive you why
You hung me out to dry

Maybe I'm a little crazy
But laughing out loud
Makes it all pass by
Maybe you're a little crazy
But laughing out loud
Makes it all subside

Holding, I'm holding
Falling, I'm still falling

Spoon in spoon
Stirring my coffee
I think of this
And turn to the gate
But on my way crack
Lightening and thunder
Hid my head
And the storm slipped away

Maybe I'm a little crazy
But laughing out loud
Makes it all pass by
Maybe you're a little crazy
But laughing out loud
Makes it all all right
Laughing out loud

(alanis)

From time to time
Minutes and hours
Some move ahead
While some lag behind
Like the balloon
that rise and then vanish
This drop of hope
That falls from his eye

(dave)

Spoon in spoon
Stirring my coffee
I think of this
And turn to go away
But as I walk
The voices behind me say
Sinners sin
Come now and play

Laughing out loud
Come now and play.
-- Dave Matthews Band

Breathe You In

The sound of beating hearts so anxious
A sacred rhythm pulsing with desire
The time we spend alone, it saves us
The things we learn in solitude inspire
Its good to love for love is hard to find
But to love is realized

I can breathe you in
I can taste every moment
And the world in your patient eyes
It will wait 'til we have arrived
I'm so alive
And I breathe you in

I'm breathing in your touch so reckless
I'm breathing in the words
that slip softly from your
fingertips
The one you've blessed is all but helpless
The largest lesson given will impower
Its good to love for love is hard to touch
If this life is large enough

I can breathe you in
I can taste every moment
And the world in your patient eyes
It will wait til we have arrived
I'm so alive
And I breathe you in

Your scent on my pillow
Is enough to get me through
But there's so much more to
learn apart from you
Our time in a bottle
Would be wasted if it were used
When there's so much left for love to prove

So I breathe you in
I can taste every moment
And the world in your patient eyes
It will wait til we have arrived
I'm so alive
And I breathe you in

Today Has Songs

More song lyrics for those of you who follow my brain's weird connections...

Bird on a Wire

Like a bird on the wire,
Like a drunk in a midnight choir
I have tried in my way to be free.
Like a worm on a hook,
Like a knight from some old fashioned book
I have saved all my ribbons for thee.
If i, if I have been unkind,
I hope that you can just let it go by.
If i, if I have been untrue
I hope you know it was never to you.

Like a baby, stillborn,
Like a beast with his horn
I have torn everyone who reached out for me.
But I swear by this song
And by all that I have done wrong
I will make it all up to thee.
I saw a beggar leaning on his wooden crutch,
He said to me, you must not ask for so much.
And a pretty woman leaning in her darkened door,
She cried to me, hey, why not ask for more?

Oh like a bird on the wire,
Like a drunk in a midnight choir have tried in my way to be free.

--Leonard Cohen

Bless the Broken Road

I set out on a narrow way many years ago
Hoping I would find true love along the broken road
But I got lost a time or two
Wiped my brow and kept pushing through
I couldn't see how every sign pointed straight to you
Every long lost dream lead me to where you are
Others who broke my heart they were like northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you

I think about the years I spent just passing through
I'd like to have the time I lost and give it back to you
But you just smile and take my hand
You've been there you understand
It's all part of a grander plan that is coming true

Every long lost dream lead me to where you are
Others who broke my heart they were like northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you

And now Im just rolling home
Into my lover's arms
This much I know is true,
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you

That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you

--Rascal Flatts

Fear

Morning smiles
Like the face of a newborn child
Innocent unknowing
Winters end
Promises of a long lost friend
Speaks to me of comfort

But I fear
I have nothing to give
I have so much to lose
Here in this lonely place
Tangled up in our embrace
There's nothing I'd like
Better than to fall
But I fear I have nothing to give

Wind in time
Rapes the flower trembling on the vine
Nothing yields to shelter it
From above
They say temptation will destroy our love
The never ending hunger

But I fear
I have nothing to give
I have so much to lose
Here in this lonely place
Tangled up in our embrace
There's nothing I'd like
Better than to fall
But I fear
I have nothing to give
I have so much to lose
I have nothing to give
We have so much to lose...

--Sarah McLachlan

In other news, I spent several hours yesterday composing the mix that is the soundtrack of my life... It has 280 songs on it, so roughly 9.65 songs for every year that i've been alive, or probably something like 20 songs per year since i really became aware of the effect that music has had on my brain and emotions around the age of 14. =) I'll probably post the list later, but at the moment i SHOULD be doing homework.

Today has Songs

because the last week has been less than stellar for all the people i love and for myself. Today has three songs.

Sail Away

Sail away with me honey
I put my heart in your hands
Sail away with me honey now, now, now
Sail away with me
What will be will be
I wanna hold you now

Crazy skies all wild above me now
Winter howling at my face
And everything I held so dear
Disappeared without a trace
Oh all the times I've tasted love
Never knew quite what I had
Little darling if you hear me now
Never needed you so bad
Spinning round inside my head

Sail away with me honey
I put my heart in your hands
Sail away with me honey now, now, now
Sail away with me
What will be will be
I wanna hold you now

I've been talking drunken gibberish
Falling in and out of bars
Trying to find some explanation here
For the way some people are
How did it ever come so far

Sail away with me honey
I put my heart in your hands
Sail away with me honey now, now, now
Sail away with me
What will be will be
I wanna hold you now
Sail away with me honey
I put my heart in your hands
Sail away with me honey now, now, now
Sail away with me
What will be will be
I wanna hold you now

-- David Gray

Four Days

All I want is something good
It gets harder every time
She is leaving here tonight
Take a breath
Take your time
Spread your wings and rise

Make a mark upon the wall
Paint your face and pass the time
Close your eyes and she ascends
Hold your breath
Ease your mind
Forty thousand times

Time fade into the night
They descend and then they climb
Feathers falling through the night
Have you seen ohio rise
It has been four days and nights

All I want is something fine
It gets harder every time
She is sleeping far away
Take a breath
Take your time
Spread your wings and rise

Rise through the black ohio sky
They descend and then they climb
Feathers falling through the night
Have you seen ohio rise
It has been four days and nights

-- Adam Duritz

As Is

You can't hide
Behind social graces
So don't try
To be all touchy feely
Cuz you lie
In my face of all places
But I got no
Problem with that really

What bugs me
Is that you believe what you're saying
What bothers me
Is that you don't know how you feel
What scares me
Is that while you're telling me stories
You actually
Believe that they are real

I get no illusions about you
Guess what
I never did
When I said
When I said I'll take it
I meant
I meant as is

Just give up
And admit you're as asshole
You would be
In some good company and I think you'd find
That your friends would forgive you
Or maybe i
Am just speaking for me

When I look around
I think this, this is good enough
And I try to laugh
At whatever life brings
Cuz when I look down
I just miss all the good stuff
And when I look up
I just trip over things

I've got no illusions about you
Guess what
I never did
When I say
When I say illl take it
I mean
I mean as is

-- Ani DiFranco
