Pet Peeve

People, please. If you are going to post on forums, blogs, ads, etc. LEARN TO SPELL and USE GRAMMAR EFFECTIVELY

Here are some common things that you might misspell or mispunctuate, or otherwise mangle.

Its congraTulations, not congraDulations. We don't say "Congrads", do we?

To, too, and two are often misused. "to" is used in the sense, "we are going TO somewhere." Too means ALSO, and Two, of course is the number.

It's AD, not ADD. When you ADD something, you are implying that more will be forthcoming. An AD is something you use to sell something. (Ad is a shortened form of "advertisement")

An apostrophe is NOT necessary before every "s". "One's" is an example of this. "One's" implies that whatever is the object (like chocolate, let's say) is possessed by the one, NOT that there are more than one one. (as in "he did his ones beautifully")

Argh.

That is all.

Last week I sent an e-mail reply to a young guy I work with: "you have a full sized keyboard - there is no need to use text message abbreviations."

He's a smart guy and a good worker, but people won't take him seriously if he doesn't communicate professionally.
